Vince Staples at the Observatory

I’m a bandwagon fan. I know that part of the song made for people like me to know. I’m sorry I’m trash, but at least I’m admitting it.

Vince Staples performed at the Observatory in Santa Ana on Tuesday night. I don’t think the show was sold out, but the crowd was full and there were plenty of people buying merch at the end. My friend and I were supposed to go to the show in LA, but we overestimated a website maintenance on AXS and thought it was sold out. Anyways, it was my first time in the O.C. since moving to California and I don’t know what the O.C. is, but, allegedly, it is “white trash.” That’s not politically correct, but the crowd was pretty white, so maybe it’s some type of correct. I never watched The O.C. Is a season of One Tree Hill close enough? The friend I went with summed it up as, “Some white boy moves to the O.C. and realizes it’s different from the place he lived previously.” Sounds… generic.

When Vince performed Norf Norf, nobody in the crowd could say with conviction, I ain’t never ran from nothing but the police. Vince must’ve been disappointed or felt like he deserved a better crowd, which he definitely did. My friend noted, for every one person dancing, there were twenty people not dancing. In defense of some people, they were pretty high. But can’t anybody boogie in the O.C.? Not even to Party People?

Vince has been touring Big Fish Theory, his latest release. I didn’t listen to him before this album, so I’m late as holy hell. Vince is great. He recently did some joint shows with Tyler the Creator and got shadowed by Flower Boy‘s hooks, but it’s cool. Anybody who’s listening knows Vince has more to say.

At one point during the show, I moved out of the crowd to stand at that sweet corner spot between the restrooms and the stage. Looking into the audience, I tried to feel what Vince might’ve been feeling. All I could conclude was, being a touring musician must be hard. But at least $$$.

Two things I’m wondering, but not knowing how to fit into this write-up:

  1. Does Vince Staples perform every song live?
  2. Does any other person feel sad that he and Tyler split LA shows up so they could reap separate profits from dumb LA people?
