I try beginning somewhere at the beginning when I write essays, but I think the best way I write is in fragments with information being revealed only casually and in a passing-by kind of manner, like nothing’s important, but everything’s part of the picture.

Today was the last day my college friend Amos and I will be hanging during his business trip here and I’m ready to restart my schedule and energy. I didn’t expect to meet up with him because neither of us had discussed it via our mutual acquaintance until the day before, despite both having known about the trip at least a month in advance, and then it went zero to 100 real quick. This meant dim sum lunch the first day he was here, breakfast and lunch in Little Tokyo the next day with visits to Chinatown and historic downtown in between, then tacos for late dinner, then AYCE K-BBQ as the finale.

My tummy. She full.

We had a great time catching up and getting to know each other better, so it was nice. Amos is like the opposite end of the “responsible adult” spectrum compared to me and I think I needed a reminder to take some things more seriously while he needed a reminder to chill out a little.

After we got dinner today I came home and asked Tori if she had anything she would tell beginner vegans, like if their poops change or something, and she replied asking if I could pick her up from her boyfriend’s house. I told her yes and proceeded to drive there, only to have her text me, three minutes from the destination, how I didn’t need to scoop her because she had driven herself there and she didn’t know how she could have forgotten. I pulled to the side and laughed. I wasn’t surprised and I needed that little drive, so it worked out.

Inspired by Amos’ responsibility, I took up two extra shifts this week. I’ll be working all day Tuesday and Wednesday. I should sleep soon. This month has gotten off to a good start, filled with lots of good food and good company. In 15 days I will be home for the holidays. I hope that will be a good time, too.
