11. 火鍋底料

I didn’t pass my boba training. They called me to come in for my check and I was like, damn. I went out to meet a friend for lunch in Little Tokyo, then drove to the boba spot where they simply let me go. I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m not Chinese. I was learning quickly, everyone seemed to like me, and they kept tipping me out. Looking back on it, it’s like they knew I wasn’t going to be hired anyways. Oh well. I deleted everyone’s numbers because I was very tempted to text them like, “Is it because I’m not Chinese?” I’m sure there’s a story there.

My goal is to find another part-time or full-time job by August. I was hurt when I saw the boba place was paying me $12/hr. My check was like $228 for the one week I worked. I’ve applied to a Hawaiian BBQ place and a toddler play place. I’m going to apply to a poké spot, too. And I should probably just apply for entry-level office jobs so I can sit and whatever, but it’s like… if I’m going to get a part-time job, I want it to be as meaningless as possible. That way I can laugh at it, go home, and write.

As I told my cousin Steph: the struggle is real, but good.
