I always have this dream where I’m at college
but it’s a mall
and it’s right before graduation
and I always have trouble finding a parking spot
and then for some reason I feel the need
to find a shopping cart
and take it with me
even though it’s empty.
And somehow I always get lost ‘on campus’
and my family is waiting at the place
where graduation is taking place
and the entire time I’m running around
freaking out at the mall
and getting very lost
and confused
and carrying around this empty shopping cart
like direction makes no sense
even though I should know where I’m going by now.
And I always end up in the basement of this place.
There’s weird artsy shit down there
like a theater
and last time I was watching from the audience
but this time
when I end up in the basement
I’m like…
“FUCK.
This place again?”
And this guy is gesturing to the back of the stage
to his friend
but I decide to go and see what they’re doing
and he points at the audience and laughs and says
‘Look what we have these dumbasses
following along to.’
And then I leave
and I run into this guy who says hi
and we go into the bathroom to make out
and I am very underwhelmed
and I am also put off by my own body
and it’s the first time in a dream that I kiss someone
but I’m like
“Alright, I guess that’s it, bye.”
And he tells me I’m on my phone too much.
So I leave and I’m trying to get out of this basement
and I recall from other dreams it’s in this room
that says ‘private’ on it
but one of the windows is loose
and I don’t know why it’s so fucking hard
to get out of the basement
but I go there and I’m in the middle of climbing out
when this girl comes up to me and says
‘Aren’t you Jennifer?
How do you get out of this place?
You’re the only one who’s ever escaped.”
I don’t say anything to her,
but I jump out the window
and start running back to the mall
and she starts climbing out, too.
And this big guy comes out of nowhere
and chops off both her legs.
She’s screaming, but not bleeding.
She has nub legs now
and she’s still trying to run for it,
but he catches up to her
and then he turns into a shark
and he swims beside me as I’m running
but he doesn’t eat me.
And then I text Steph and I’m like
“What are you doing? I’m lost.”
And she’s like
“Yeah, I figured.”
And that’s about it.
